no gigs at the moment..
brigit's blog
hello....its a group blog...not just me...we're writing this together, midnight on saturday night....
we may be drunk...what's it to you?
anyhoo....we did an interview with a lovely man called Mark today on t'radio...Preston FM http://www.preston.fm
the interview airs monday 14th sept at 11am. Mark is pretty cool...you should totally tune in for some early morning anarchy....his show is billled as 'An hour of music that matters; and matters that matter. An eclectic blend of hard music and hard news - putting music back into politics and politics back into music.' and therefore he is reet up our street.
he had some insightful things to say about our band and t'album. steve says he loved doing the interview. 'the rythmn section' concur. no doubt wherever you live, you can listen to the interview on t'internet in the comfort of your own office.
thankyou for a wicked afternoon, mark xxx
our message of the day is
don't be willling slaves....fight the power...
diy or die.
motherfucker.
word.
loki have left the building, but they are always in possession of their dignity.
oops, rachel fell in't'fireplace.
boo-ya...salutations...alllreeeeetttttt?
In the beginning there was Michael Jackson...and he was good (or not, like whatever you think...)...but cos the blighter's posthumous record sales have shot through the roof, our album has been held up in production....d'oh! We were supposed to be holding the silver discs of wonder in our hands, carefully flicking through the shiny pages of the booklet and sleeping with one under our pillow by now...but MJ made us wait...Monday morning, fingers crossed...when we've got 'em, i might give you a tour.
But that shouldn't stop the virtual wheels rolling into motion, as you can now preorder your copy, ready for 14.09.09 here: http://www.thegenepool.co.uk/items/352.htm - how exciting. Its a very reasonable £8.99 as well, so don't say we don't look after your best interests.
What else?
Well, i got a hand-me-down ipod t'other day and suddenly my day is filled with music, which is pretty, damn fine, as the silence was sending me a bit loopy...all that time alone with your thoughts - yikes! anyway, on my way home one day i was listening to The Holy Bible by MSP and was thinking what a fine, fine album it was and then i started compiling a top ten album list in my head, which goes something like this, in no particular order and missing out many, many greatly loved musical treats:
Bjork - Homogenic
PJ Harvey - Dry
Hole - Pretty on the Inside
MSP - The Holy Bible
dEUS - In a Bar, Under the Sea
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Nirvana - In Utero
Tori Amos - Boys for Pele
QUOTSA - Songs for the Deaf
Sonic Youth - Washing Machine
but they're all very comfotable and familiar like that tatty jumper you wear on sundays and when you're ill that feels like a whooly hug. So I have two questions:
1) what's your top ten albums of all time?
2) what one album should I hear before I die?
I know, I know, they've been asked before, but I'm asking now...and I need answers :)
no need for a postcard...just post a comment below...on the down low...how low can you go?
bo.
So...biggest news this week is that our album THE ADVENTURES OF LOKI is not only going to have physical and digital release in the UK on 1th September, but also a WORLDWIDE digital release via Universal = loki love without borders, administering aural pleasure wherever you are....ooer....
what else? these last fews I have mostly....
become addicted to twitter...click the widget on the right to start following us. I love the fact that (unlike in a blog...ahem) you have to be brief. And that you can follow people like Charlie Brooker (whom I very much enjoy the rantings of), alongside people who you know a whole lot better...I heard about the HOPE NOT HATE petition (see my previous blog) through twitter, so its as informative and political as it is vague and whimsical.
been signing petitions and protesting against the BNP - fascist scum...NOT IN LOKI'S NAME...hateful, hateful scum.
went on a little trip to the fair city of Edinburgh, which I love. we went to visit lovely, lovely Joe of Transmission Productions and his lovely, lovely girlfriend Ness...and to see Future of the Left...who I really enjoyed, nice to see a band that's on it like a mouse on cheese (anyone who gets that reference can have a badge). Joe and his partner in crime Sean made the Feminine Side video, and have recently been making some pretty amazing short films, which he showed us and we're talking about making a new video with them very soon....
on tuesday the band went to see Let The Right One In, which is a swedish vampire film...yep, not a genre you often hear, but we were all totally blown away by it, so if you haven't seen it, DO IT it is brrrrrriiiilllliant....(brrr...y'know cos it snows a lot in sweden....no?)
putting up a live recording of 'You'll Soon Be Ours' on our myspace profile...it was recorded on a portable minidisc player through shit headphones, but boy does it sound good for it...we will be posting other songs as we finish them....I also put up the album versions of Feminine Side, Dance Like A Maniac and My Black Dog, so of course our number of listens has plummeted....grrrrrrrr...Chucked a few new photos on there and removed the vids...then I tried to change the layout a bit, then changed it back again....why, oh why, oh why can't bands have Myspace 2.0 profiles yet?...no fair....they look better and are easier to look at...so i've been sulking about that a bit....but i still loves ya myspace... its definitely the best social networking site for bands
been finishing off the most recent song to be added to the loki arsenal - Hope Slash Attention....very pleased with that one, felt like I got something out of the writing process...pretty cathartic. pretty and cathartic. we are about to embark on revisiting the huge backlog of jams and half finished songs that we accumulated over the dark days, so the next album will no doubt be written before the first one comes out, or not long after! So, hopefully you won't have as long to wait this time round :)
finally, i have been trying to avoid reading people's glowing reports of faith no more's return to gigging...apparently they have been absolutely amazing...and i wasn't there so sulk, sulk, sulk....
let me see, have i bored you enough yet???
i think so....
brigit has vacated the internet.....
I was thinking today about the particular lost art of fanzine interviewing as a way of getting to know a band...without getting to know them at all...
The key to this particular line of questioning is to ask as many vague and unenlightening questions as possible preferably with some kind of comedic effect... This makes answering the questions pretty difficult, especially if you haven't spent many days of your youth pondering what your favourite colour was, or if you ain't sharp enough to come up with some witty answer that flips a glib question such as 'eastenders or coronation street' into a philosophical monologue concerning the meaning of life...
so with that in mind here are my top ten fanzine questions and my answers to them....please join in fellow band mates and website browsers alike....ooh we'll have this place looking like myspace in no time!
NB. Remember, you will know nothing really about me by the end of these questions...don't take me seriously people...i'm not a serious person...
1. What's your favourite colour? BLACK, and yes it is a colour you moron.
2. What's your favourite animal? The Pig in the BBC's TV version of A Hitch Hikers Guide to Galaxy....mmmm, the stuff of nightmares.
3. What's your favourite film? CLING FILM (ha!ha!...get it? you were asking about cinema but I said that stuff you wrap stuff in!....no, really I'm a freaking genius)
4. What's your favourite book? Ahem, *adopts an accent somewhat like Lloyd Grossman* its, like, a really rare book that, like, no-one has ever read apart from me, so, like, there's no point me telling you what's its called or nothing cos it would, like, totally blow your mind and, like, this totally proves, like, that I am hyper-intelligent and my genius is wasted, like, playing in a, like, band.
5. Eastenders or Coronation Street? That's not even a question is it? But for the sake of argument...NEITHER.
6. Animal, Vegetable or Mineral? What? Are we playing that super-tedious game now? To alleviate the boredom of this interview, I presume.
7. Who's your favourite celebrity? Yes, everyone's got a favourite celebrity haven't they....now let's see is it Kerry Katona or Fern Cotton....I know last week I was definitely all caught up in the life a some dullard who dared to succumb to the crippling culture of thinness only to be lambasted for not going about it in the right way (i.e. silently starving herself to death)...
8. Who's your daddy? *silence*
9. Lady lumps or sugar lumps? *more silence*
10. Shipman or Hindely? *loki have left the building*
So, what would you say in the face of such bizarre questions...or any more questions you want to know the answer to???
I'd like to say that this website has been the culmination of much hard work...a bit thankyou to the mysterious swayed for all his endeavours...
...but this website also signals a brave new world for loki...we've been through the shit and its testament to the ties that bind us that we're still here with an ever ready thirst for rocknroll...i love my lokis...i can't wait to release our album in september, i am very proud of it...and i have mosher's neck....that is all xxx
